Pest forecast for Thessaloniki and Halkidiki

How much the weather favours mosquitoes, cockroaches, rodents, ants, wasps, flies and fleas in 22 areas of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki, for the next 9 days.

Loading the forecast…

The weather decides when mosquitoes start biting, when cockroaches come up from the drains and when mice look for shelter inside buildings. This page takes the weather forecast for each area of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki and shows, for the next 9 days, how much the weather favours each group of pests. Conditions are not the same everywhere: seaside areas have warmer, more humid nights than inland suburbs, and in Halkidiki damp areas near streams favour mosquitoes, while hot, dry spells favour wasps around yards and pools.

Use it to take prevention steps at the right moment: empty standing water before a warm, humid spell, keep drains closed when the nights get warmer, and seal gaps before the first cold nights of autumn. If you manage a holiday rental, a hotel or a restaurant, it also helps you plan treatments before the season and during it. For what?

How the estimate works

For each area we take the 9-day forecast and check every pest group against a simple rule. Three days in a row that meet it mark a season. High pressure means the weather strongly favours that pest; it does not measure insects in your home.

  • Mosquitoes: mean temperature ≥ 20°C for 3 days; high with ≥ 10 mm rain in a week or humidity ≥ 70%.
  • Cockroaches (drains): night minimum ≥ 18°C for 3 days; high ≥ 21°C.
  • Rodents: night minimum ≤ 8°C (September–February); high with ≥ 2 nights ≤ 4°C or ≥ 5 nights ≤ 8°C.
  • Ants: maximum ≥ 20°C and mean ≥ 15°C for 3 days; high with maximum ≥ 24°C.
  • Wasps (nests): maximum ≥ 28°C for 3 days; high ≥ 32°C.
  • Flies: mean ≥ 20°C for 3 days; high ≥ 25°C.
  • Fleas: mean ≥ 20°C and humidity ≥ 65% for 3 days; high with humidity ≥ 75%.

Questions

How is the pest pressure calculated?

From the 9-day weather forecast for each area: temperature, night minimum, rain and humidity. Each group of pests has a simple rule (listed on this page). Three days in a row that meet the rule mark the start of a season. It is an estimate based on weather, not a count of insects.

How often is it updated?

Every three hours, with new forecast data from MET Norway for 22 areas of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki.

Will I get an email every day?

No. You get one email when a season starts for what you chose in your area, and no second email for the same pest for at least three weeks. You can unsubscribe from the link in every alert email.

Does high pressure mean I have a problem at home?

Not necessarily. It means the weather favours that pest, so it is a good time for prevention and to check the usual spots. If you already see signs, ask for an inspection.
